Red Sonja #1 review
A book coming in with months of hype, from a strong writer has to be a good thing for Dynamite Comics. This reboot or revitalization may be exactly what the doctor ordered for the current less than exciting Red Sonja. So was it worth the wait? Well, kinda.
Gail Simone‘s Red Sonja #1 jumped out of the gates sporting amazing covers, all from incredible female artists. I’m a sucker for variants and amazing covers so I instantly bought into 3 of the 6 varying covers. When I was done judging the book by it’s cover, I opened it up and discovered the story was just…meh. Not bad, but not as incredible as I had hoped. Maybe my expectations were too high?
Red Sonja is an amazing, strong, and spry character, something Gail Simone portrays incredibly well. The story has her leading an unlikely army against a horde of unworldly savages. Cool right? So I still don’t understand why I’m so disappointed. Maybe it was the art…
The main point is, the book is worth a read and deserves attention, see how it fits your fancy and let me know in the comments how you felt about it.
