During Konami’s pre-E3 show they dropped a bomb on the Metal Gear series by announcing the new voice of Solid Snake. The Lost Boy himself, Kiefer Sutherland will be the new voice actor for the patched hero/anti-hero. Sutherland isn’t new to the gaming voice acting gig, doing work for some of the Call of Duty and Tekken games in the past.
Kojima went on to explain his decision to breathe new life into Snake’s character, putting Metal Gear Solid V in 1984, using a much older 49 year old Snake.
The Metal Gear V announcement is around the 10 minute mark.
The voice acting change wasn’t a surprise, David Hayter announced earlier he hadn’t received any requests from Konami to come back as Snake, so seeing a notable actor as Sutherland I think was the biggest bomb. I personally don’t see a reason to use another voice actor, David Hayter sounds pretty old to me, old enough to be a 49 year old Solid Snake anyway. Change can be good, and I’m already looking forward to getting my hands on some new Metal Gear action.
