Sony’s press conference at Gamescom 2013

Sony‘s press conference at Gamescom 2013 in Cologne, while not being as epic as this years E3, still made a powerful impact. During the confress SCE president Andrew House poked at Microsoft’s Xbox One claiming that the PlayStation 4 had remained “consistent in maintaining policies and a model that is fair and in tune with consumer desires.” I think we’re all familiar with the Xbox One80 business, so hopefully no further explanation is needed in that. As a blogger and gaming enthusiast I still find it unsettling the amount of cheers Andrew House received for only hinting at Microsoft’s fumbles. Aren’t we press? Aren’t we supposed to be impartial and unbiased? I guess sometimes emotions get the best of us when we feel we’re being rung through the ringer.

borderlands2-vitaLet’s not stumble on the formalities of console competition and continue on to some of the other highlights from Sony’s press conference at Gamescom 2013. The fantastic indie title Fez was announced for cross-play, Borderlands 2 for Vita, and Minecraft announced as a day one launch title for the PS4, also being available for PS3 and Vita. Sony also noted Vita’s price drop to $199, making it even more desirable. I think this is the first time I really ever cared when Sony was talking about the Vita in any conference they’ve ever done.

Sony also discussed their Cross-Gen discount program, letting people who purchase Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and other games on PS3,  buy the PS4 version for a “significantly discounted” price. No other details were given, but GameStop’s similar Xbox 360 program has already come out and said they’ll give any consumer $50 when they buy the same title for their Xbox One system. Hmm.

Oh, haha, and they also announced that the PLAYSTATION 4 RELEASES NOVEMBER 15TH! In North America. Look for great exclusives from Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4, although EA already killed BF4 with it’s pre-release, pre-launch premium pass bullshit.

Farm On.
